Join DIFFERENCE MAKERS
Come join the FUN FROM GIVING! This group organizes volunteer activities that “make a difference in a day”. Each year the group chooses what activities they wish to do to help the community. Activities range from helping at The Children’s Center, preparing welcome home bags for servicemen returning to the US, beach clean-up walks, to making valentines for the elderly.
In September, Difference Makers will be collecting books for children and young adults to stock the Little Library boxes located on the Island. These libraries hold a special place in our hearts; they were created by WAHHI member, Cathy Todd’s father! Kids borrow these books and enjoy reading & sharing the stories. Bring your books to the September 23 luncheon or check with your neighborhood WAHHI Ambassador to drop off donations prior to the luncheon.
In October, (Oct 14-17th) Difference Makers will be supporting the Pledge the Pink event on Hilton Head Island. This is a 3-day, 30 mile walk that raises money for cancer treatment. 1500 participants walk, run or push a stroller through a trio of 10-mile courses where the aim isn’t to be the fastest, but to have the most fun along the way. Most of the funds raised stay in the
Lowcountry, going to organizations like Volunteers in Medicine, Beaufort-Jasper-Hampton Comprehensive Health Service, Beaufort Memorial Hospital, and Hollings Cancer Center, among others. It’s a big project that will dominate the island and a BIG way to support the resilience of women. Many volunteers are needed to help cheer and celebrate the participants. You can sign up for many different volunteer opportunities through Difference Makers.
November 13th brings an opportunity to support Habitat for Humanity. Help complete a home for a single mom and her children. Spots are filling fast! Contact your Difference Makers co-chairs for sign up.
Difference Makers Co-leaders are Gina Hines ( email@example.com) and Eileen Faas at (firstname.lastname@example.org). Contact Gina or Eileen to join the group. There is a one-time $5 fee that covers costs incurred during the year. Once you are on their roster- you will receive email updates and links to more information about the specific projects. Locations and days vary depending on the activity.
