For women who love to read — or maybe write.
Leader: Jackie Cordray
Helpers: Ann Gillen & Pat Korb
Our group consists of a very short topic-of-the-day discussion, a speaker presentation on a reading-related subject and Dutch treat lunch following the meeting at a nearby restaurant. This is not a traditional book group so members do not have to prepare for the meetings.
- Day: First Tuesday of October, December, February and April at 10:30am
- Location: Tidepointe Ballroom
- Fee: No Charge; Lunch is optional
2019-20 Program Schedule
October 1 – Hear how Holly Bounds Jackson, director of content and operations at SCETV’s Beaufort office, and Dr. Caroline Sawyer, USCB communications professor, together with Sawyer’s students, have launched By the River, a statewide weekly interview program highlighting South Carolina authors. Lunch at Red Fish.
December 3 – Sally R. Murphy, dubbed the Sea Turtle Queen, will discuss her memoir, Turning the Tide, about her 30-year career with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. A wildlife biologist, she’s responsible for establishing the state’s sea turtle protection and marine mammal stranding programs, sometimes against great odds. Lunch at Black Marlin.
February 4 – Rebecca Dwight Bruff, fascinated by the story of slave-turned-politician RobertSmalls, moved across country to research and write her debut novel, Trouble theWater, about his life. Weaving history and fiction, mixing white stories and black, she has written what may become a “Carolina classic.” Lunch at One Hot Mama’s.
April 7 – It’s a Wrap! Jackie Cordray, retiring Bookmarkers leader after 10 years at the helm, in her “swan song” shares some of her writings–poetry and prose–that she has created at different times during her life. Lunch at Charlie’s L’Etoile.
All meetings are held at 10:30 a.m. at TidePointe. An optional Dutch treat lunch follows.
