WAHHI lost one of its longtime members this year, Carol Gordon. Like many of us, Carol and her husband Norm relocated to Hilton Head Island after they retired. Over 20+ years here, Carol made a lasting impact on her friends, the Indigo Run community, and the greater island community.
Carol served as an early president of the Indigo Run Women’s Club. She shared her exceptional crafts skills with others, and together they created beautiful handmade treasures to be sold at annual crafts fairs to support local charities. This first group of women leaders negotiated a deal with the IR developers to construct a building for the IRWC meetings. These female pioneers were a force to be reckoned with! Carol was the ultimate hostess and an avid bridge player. She was well-read, spoke her mind, and was known as someone who could organize anything. Carol was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was powerful but always empathetic.
This summer, Carol’s son, Bruce, and her daughter-in-law, Rita, made a generous contribution to the WAHHI Charitable Fund in her memory. Their donation will support WAHHI’s mission to facilitate communication among women, encourage projects that benefit the community, and promote the natural and cultural beauty of the Lowcountry.
The WAHHI Charitable Grants Committee will review proposals and select local nonprofits to receive support from the funds designated by Carol’s family. This will enable WAHHI to expand grant opportunities and to continue Carol’s legacy of community engagement and supporting those in need.
How to Support the Fund:
When you join WAHHI or renew your membership at the Diamond level ($70), $25 will be donated to the WAHHI Charitable Fund to support community grants and gifts. You are encouraged to support our varied fundraising activities throughout the year. It is also possible to make a one-time or recurring donation to the WAHHI Charitable Fund by visiting the WAHHI donation page on the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry website. Donations may be paid via credit card online (credit card processing fee applies) or by check via mail. Gifts made to the WAHHI Charitable Fund through the Community Foundation may be made in honor of or in memory of someone or as a charitable donation.
