Message from Tamra Avrit

Dear WAHHI Friends,

As more and more women (and their loved ones and friends) are being vaccinated in our community, I would like to share with you our future plans for returning to more “normal” WAHHI operations. We will continue to rely on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, SC Department of Health and Environmental Control, and our local authorities to make sure everyone remains safe.

As Covid-19 vaccines continue to roll out over the coming months, fewer public health restrictions will likely be needed. We anticipate that by the beginning of Fall, we will be able to enjoy the rich large and small group in-person experiences that our members desire.  For now, however, we will remain vigilant and continue with outdoor activities, masking, and social distancing at WAHHI events and activities.

With the necessary precautions in mind, the April 8th luncheon capacity is now increased by 25 more registrations (to 150 participants). The added 25 registrations will be “on your own” seating with your own chair under the trees. The Pavilion seating remains at 125 for social distancing. The Pavilion’s overall capacity is 250 people. At the luncheon, we will be announcing our 2020-2021 Youth Community Service Awards and our 60th Anniversary Community Gift – in addition to our Ath-leisure Style Show. I hope you can join us either at the luncheon event in-person or on Zoom to celebrate our collective community contributions.

This past year hasn’t been easy, but thanks to the dedication, compassion, and commitment of every member of our women’s community – and our awesome Board and Council, Interest Group, and Ambassador leaders – we have been able to be socially distanced, but not socially distant. Many of you have enjoyed limited outdoor/in-person activities including book clubs, crafts, sports, luncheons, and our Chef Series. Many others have enjoyed our first-time virtual programs via Zoom with our Author Series, membership meetings, and our new Environmental and Cultural Speaker Series.

For 60 years, our women’s community has stepped up time and time again to make a positive impact in our community. This year, we championed many different community initiatives, including Backpack Buddies Donations, Holiday Toy Drive for The Children’s Center and Bluffton Self Help, Second Helpings 60th Anniversary Food Drive, Difference Makers monthly initiatives, WAHHI Charitable Fund Grant Awards, Youth Community Service Awards’ 40th  Anniversary, and our upcoming 60th Anniversary Community Gift. YOU have made a difference in so many ways! THANK YOU for your generous spirit, giving hearts and helping hands that support women and our community through your words and deeds.
